The starting point for this necklace was a note in my mother’s handwriting, describing a piece of embroidery she made during wartime. She wrote about sitting under the kitchen table during air raids and using scraps of wool to embroider onto an old tennis shirt. The piece she made now hangs in my home and encapsulates the idea of that moment in time. I transferred part of this note onto enamel, and combined it with the ghostly outline of a dressmaking pattern rolled into a sheet of copper, evoking her love of sewing and handicrafts.
