How to commission a piece of jewellery

I was looking for a special piece for my daughter’s birthday which was affordable but special to us both. I’ve seen some of Pippa’s work and I love it and it’s very much my daughter’s style. It was a very easy process as Pippa has such a lovely creative style without being too imposing. I expected it to take weeks but the whole process was about a month, and we were both thrilled with the outcome. Highly recommend asking Pippa to design something special for a gift.

A piece of jewellery is a very personal item, and a commissioned piece even more so. Being asked to create something special and individual is a privilege, and something I always enjoy doing.

So how does it work?

Karen approached me to create a special present for her daughter’s birthday. She had seen my work worn by a friend and wanted something in a similar style.

We talked about her daughter’s lifestyle (very sporty) and how she wears jewellery. It needed to be lightweight, strong and quite simple so she could wear it all the time, without it getting in the way of her sport or coming loose and getting lost.

Budget

We set a budget from the outset, which helps to narrow down the type of materials and level of complexity. I also noted down her date of birth, to make sure it was ready for the big day.

Sketches and ideas

Then I was able to sketch some ideas, which were fine-tuned in discussion with Karen, to reach a final design.

The result

The piece is completely unique and individual and captures all the important elements that make it perfect for the recipient.

“She’s thrilled!”
